I have heard both authors and musicians describe the action of sending a finished piece of work out into the public arena as ‘releasing it into the wild’. If, as in this case, the finished piece of work happens to be a bird book the idea naturally follows to release the book as if it were a wild bird, i.e. ring it and let it go. This, whimsical idea led to the ‘Wild Book Project’ in which a number of copies of ‘An Observers Book of Birds’ ( https://jonjamesart.com/books/an-observers-book-of-birds/ ) were numbered (ringed) and either given to people with instruction to read and pass it on, or left in public places. Contact details were provided so that anyone finding one of the books could let me know so that its flight could be recorded.
We will see what, if anything, happens!
